Low Selenium (Se) levels are found in western Canada and across
37 states. Se deficiency could be affecting your bottom line.
Se is usually expressed as white muscle disease, and low levels can lead to retained placentas, weak calves and a markedly reduced calving efficiency. Se and Vitamin E (E) tend to be classed together, as low E levels will lead to reduced calving percentages. There are many important interactions between Se and other required minerals such as Zinc (Zn) and Copper (Cu). It is important that a well-balanced feed supplement with guaranteed nutrient levels is fed to your herd.
In our Canadian regions we have had two reports, one from Jim in
the Nicola Valley in BC, and one from Grant in Southern Saskatchewan, where Se
levels are low. We recommend the #7 low moisture molasses lick tubs that
have the highest nutrient density of any supplement on the market. The tub
contains 26ppm of Se and also is formulated to meet the requirements of other
minerals including Zn and Cu.
Both operations have seen improvement of their herd since using
the Vitalix Tubs. Jim in Nicola
Valley has reported back that his cows are gaining weight and that the tubs are
a cost savings that have greatly improved his bottom line
